What We Love
- Lower Out-of-Pocket Expenses: When you make a claim, PetInsurance.com.au will cover 80% of your eligible vet bill, making visits to the vet much easier on your budget. When you visit a GapOnly® vet, they will review and calculate your pet insurance claim in real-time, so you just pay the gap and go.
- Cost: In our survey of Australian pet insurance prices for accidental injury and illness policies, the PetInsurance.com.au premium was well below average. Of the 19 cover options surveyed, they had the second lowest premium.
- Cover Options: On dog and cat covers, you have the option to choose between injury and illness cover or injury only cover (which also covers specified illnesses). This makes it possible to choose the level of coverage to suit your pet and your budget.
- Routine Care: You have the option to pay a bit more on your premium to add Routine Care cover to your policy. This provides cover for routine treatment that can include heartworm control, teeth cleaning, and behavioural therapy, with an annual cap of $150.
- Discounts & Offers: PetInsurance.com.au runs frequent promotions for new customers. At the time of writing, new customers benefit from one month free cover in their first policy year. This offer applies to new policies purchased between 29 February 2024 and 31 March 2024. Thinking of applying? Be sure to check our pet insurance coupons page for the latest offer.
- Extent of Cover: While PetInsurance.com.au does not offer cover for pre-existing conditions, it does allow pet owners to apply for pet insurance to cover hereditary and congenital defects, as long as the pet has not shown noticeable signs, symptoms, or abnormalities prior to application, or during the applicable waiting period.
- Cover for Life: Cover is available for the life of your pet as long as Petinsurance.com.au continues to provide the product, and you renew your policy each year with no break, lapse, or change in the level of coverage.
What to Consider
- Specified Conditions Only for Indoor Cat Cover: While it’s great that you don’t have to pay for specific conditions for indoor cats, the coverage on this policy is somewhat limited.
- Using Intro Offers: When taking advantage of intro offers on reduced premiums, be sure to see how the policy’s standard premiums compare within the market once that intro period ends.
I’m Mitch, and I’ve spent hundreds of hours researching pet insurance, meeting with pet insurance executives, and getting the opinions of vets and pet owners. I wanted to put out information on every pet insurance brand (that I know of), to provide a true overview of the many options available to pet owners.
